Welcome to our "Songs of Salome" collection. We are very excited to be offering you this fine selection of carefully chosen cards which share the following traits in common:
They are nearly all over one hundred years old, in very nice condition for their age, offer beautiful images of dancers, actresses and singers in costumes typical of the Art Nouveau style, mostly photographed by famous and well respected photographers of the period, and with a definite emphasis on the "oriental" fashion of jewelry and adornment so popular during that time which has come to be known as La Belle Epoque.
"While still in her teens, Agustina Otero Iglesias had changed her name to Caroline Otero and reinvented her history as well, claiming to be the product of a love match between a dashing nobleman and a dark-eyed Gypsy princess. So it was that upon her arrival in Paris, she was no longer Agustina, the poor peasant girl from a small town in Galicia, but "La Belle Otero," the seductive Andalusian Gypsy dancer.
Once in Paris, and surrounding herself with the mystique of her new image, it wasn't long before she found work as a dancer in the Folies Bergère. Before long, she was the talk of that city of lights, a top billing attraction, and within a few short years, one of the most famous women in France."
Please follow the link below to our blog, where we have posted a relatively brief, but quite detailed account of La Belle Otero's life, as well as many additional images!

In this image, she is posing in a marvelous Salome-esque costume. Original photograph by the famous Leopold Reutlinger of Paris. Posted in 1902, this is a very nice card, though there is a small blotch of ink in the corner that soaked through from the back of the card and was not blotted up quickly enough by the original sender. Please examine our high res scans for detail.
Postage is for first class shipping in a secure photo mailer, and we happily combine shipping on all paper goods. If you purchase two cards, we will refund the postage on the second card, and when you purchase three or more cards from us at the same time, your shipping will be entirely free, except for international orders which, because of sudden increases in international shipping rates will still be charged one card's shipping fees on orders of three or more.
