"I enter the blue painting, board the ship that carries us gently to an orchard of golden stars..."

In the late 1880s, Gabriel Fauré, soon to become one of France's most beloved composers, put to music Belle Epoque poet Armand Silvestre's "Le Pays des Reves," The Land of Dreams. Beautiful stuff, that quite possibly, though not necessarily, inspired this wonderful Bergeret image.
If you'd like to hear soprano Elly Ameling sing this piece while examining our magical card, just follow the link below!

Living in this time, and surrounded by present day media, we sometimes think that the music of Belle Epoque Paris was all about the can-can, the brassy, vibrant, sometimes raucous celebrations of the cafe concerts, the music halls, and forget the lovely and placid music that was also very important to the period.

No different than people of today, the Parisians of the 1890s wanted not only to cast off their troubles, to dance madly and cheer, but also sometimes, to weep. Wonderful piece of music, almost eery, and marks Fauré's transition (some say), from the romantic to the modern.

Wonderful card, too. Very nice, unposted condition. Please examine our high res scans for detail.

Postage is for first class shipping in a secure photo mailer, and we happily combine shipping on all paper goods. If you purchase two cards, we will refund the postage on the second card, and when you purchase three or more cards from us at the same time, your shipping will be entirely free, except for international orders which, because of sudden increases in international shipping rates will still be charged one card's shipping fees on orders of three or more.
