Welcome to "Idols of the 1920s," where we hope to provide a special, cozy place for those of you who long to linger among the stars of the early silver screen, the hoofers and songbirds of dear old vaudeville's fading hours, a few divas of the grand opera, and of the operetta too, flappers, flappers, more flappers, and of course, and perhaps especially, those femmes fatales who with one smoldering glance can melt a heart, or break it in two. Have fun!

What a sweet image! Lya De Putti (1897-1931), was born Putti Amalia in what was Austro-Hungary and is today, Slovakia. She began her career in Hungarian Vaudeville, traveled to Berlin where she eventually became first dancer at the Winter Garden. She made her first silent film in 1918, and continued with that medium into the late 1920s, when after moving to America, and failing to advance her career in film, she tried Broadway. We will never know what she might have become though, because sadly she was hospitalized due to a throat infection caused by a chicken bone which had become lodged there, which then spread to pleurisy, and died broke, in 1931.

Lya is absolutely one of our favorite vamps. Very nice card in fine, unposted condition.
Please examine our high res scans for detail.
