A rare treat! Unidentified image, by Leo Preusz of Berlin, of a leering Vaslav Nijinsky as satyr, hoisting a seemingly delighted Anna Pavlova onto his shoulder. Nijinsky's distinctive features, heart shaped mouth, flanges of the nose, cleft chin, made his identification easy enough. In the case of Mme. Pavlova however, although their history together (Nijinsky and Pavlova) as stars of the Ballet Russes certainly led us in that direction, we needed to turn a crop of her face right-side-up. At that point her smile, the unmistakable crookedness of the teeth (no disrespect intended), closed the case (see scans). Please be certain for yourself, however. Google image search Anna Pavlova and Vaslav Nijinsky. Compare features of the dancers on our card to available images. We want you to be happy with your purchase!
We find no history on the photographer, Herr Preusz.
We hope this one will make those of our customers who are ballet fanatics very happy indeed. Its discovery certainly made our day :)
This card was imperfectly trimmed, but otherwise a very nice unposted card. Please examine our high res scans for detail.
The item you are considering for purchase is, unless otherwise noted, a vintage postcard of approximately 5 and 1/2, by 3 and 1/2 inches.
