Mae Murray and John Gilbert Dancing, 1925 by Cinemagazine ed. Paris

Mae Murray and John Gilbert dancing to the Valse Siren, also known as "The Merry Widow Waltz," in Erich von Stroheim's 1925 directorial farewell, "The Merry Widow."

If you'd like to see the scene this card image was drawn from, in which these two play out a romantic, if storm-tossed, reunion, just follow the Youtube link below:
*please note that the dance begins around minute 4:00, but the portion of it used in this postcard image begins around minute 6:30. The whole clip though, is well worth seeing :)

Mae Murray (1885-1965), known as "the girl with the bee-stung lips," was a silent film star, producer and screen writer in the late 1910s, and into the 20s. In addition to her generous mouth, she was known for her elaborate costumes, over the top dramatics, and was all the rage for quite some time.

John Gilbert (1899-1936), at the height of his fame, was rivaled only by Rudolph Valentino for the title of "Greatest Lover." He was born to a couple of unsuccessful traveling players, grew up in sometimes terrible poverty, and rose to be for a time, the highest paid star in Hollywood.

Great Cinemagazine Ed. Paris postcard, circa 1925. Cinemagazine produced wonderful prints!

Please examine our high res scans for detail.
