Greta Garbo, Pub. Iris Verlag/Albrecht and Meister, circa late 1920s.
Gorgeous portrait of the "Great Garbo" published by Iris Verlag, the Austrian film star postcard answer to Germany's Ross Verlag. On many Iris cards we find the Amag logo on the back side. Amag was Albrecht and Meister, a German publisher out of Berlin, we believe, and so the appearance of the Amag logo shows a combining of the two companies that seems to have occurred in the 1920s. The Metro Goldwyn logo, minus "Mayer" (lower right on card face) suggests that the card was printed before 1924, when Louis B. Mayer joined the company. This makes us think that possibly this card offers us an image from one of Garbo's pre-Hollywood, European films, perhaps distributed by Metro Goldwyn, why? Because Greta Garbo came to Hollywood in 1926! Just another little postcard mystery. If you have the solution, please let us know!
A gorgeous card. We fall in love with Greta Garbo again, every time we see this one.
