Great A. Traldi postcard of silent film actress Lucienne Legrand, circa 1920s. We love A. Traldi cards because of the wonderful Art Nouveau/Deco printing on their backs. Feels like two wonderful images in one to us :)

We often think of this cabaret image with top hat, cigarette, etc., as having been created by Marlene Dietrich, and she certainly had a lot to do with popularizing it in the film The Blue Angel, "Der blaue Engel." Still, that was 1930, and this iconic image predates that film probably by a few years.

Lucienne Legrand was a lovely, lovely gal. Incidentally, it's so easy to get confused when searching her name online, between the silent film actress on our card, and a later film actress, also named Lucienne Legrand, who was born in 1920, at about the time our Miss Legrand was making her earliest films.

The more recently working of these two actresses had many more appearances in film, with one as recent as 2010, so info on her might tend to drown out anything on our earlier, silent film, actress whose shorter career (1929 seems to be the date of her last credited role) implies that she may not have made the transition to the talkies.

We have no history on this Mlle. Legrand to speak of, at least in terms of her birth date, birthplace or death, but we found a very interesting site called The Historialist, with a few great posts mentioning her as the wife of Parisian shoe designer André Perugia who worked with fashion designers such as Paul Poiret, Givenchy, etc., and had a tremendous influence on modern shoe fashion and design.

In Wikipedia it was written that, "He wrote a book "From Eve to Rita Hayworth" in which he said that the way to unveil a woman's personality was to study her feet." Well, apparently he made a careful study of Mlle. Legrand's feet, and found the route to her heart :) See our listing image #4 above, not for sale, of an image borrowed from The Historialist (link below) showing the couple together. Aren't they cute?
