Lillian Gish, 1893-1993, has been called the first lady of American cinema. Her ability to express through her roles a believable kindness of heart and sincerity of spirit was truly amazing. Her career spanned 75 years, and her eyes were just as luminously beautiful in later roles as they were in her youth. In fact, one of our favorites of her films is a later one, the 1955 thriller, "Night of the Hunter," in which Miss Gish's character is positioned as an archetypal force for good, in gentle, courageous opposition to the unadulterated evil of the character played by Robert Mitchum. A must see!
