This is a vintage postcard from the Beethoven Haus in Bonn, Germany, a museum dedicated to that great composer, still in existence today. The photo is of a casting taken of Ludwig Van Beethoven's hands. Researching the style of the paper manufacturer, Agfa's, logo on the reverse of the card, we were able to at least establish that among some collectors, this logo style places the paper as having been produced during WWII.
Additionally, upon visiting the Beethoven Haus's online site and giftshop, we could find no existence of this card in this present day, suggesting that it is currently unavailable. In fact, following our usual dark, mysterious and tangled paths through the world of collectible vintage postcards, we weren't able to find a single one, anywhere, at any price!
A perfect gift for the aspiring musician, the "Schroeder," in your life, or the huge Beethoven fan, or even the Stanley Kubrick fan! A little unsettling? Well, the image itself feels just a little unsettling, no? We were thinking of transferring it to a black T-shirt, you know, on the back side, so that an aspiring musician could feel the master's hands always nudging them forward...or on the front side of the shirt, hmm, no. Still unsettling. I think you'll either love this one or otherwise :) Either way, though, a wonderfully unique item.
