Absolutely gorgeous image, probably produced sometime between 1909 and 1915 by Rotophot of Berlin. This is a beautiful example of a romantic long hair image just a few years before the flapper embrace of the bob :)
Our lovely model was posed on a rugged outcrop (beautiful studio prop, don't you think?) against a painted backdrop of a river-scape, rather than the sea, so even minus a musical instrument, we'll guess she is a Lorelei, an unhappy ghost who haunts a particular spot above the Rhine river in Germany, confusing sailors and tempting them to their deaths. The legend is actually pretty recent, born of early 19th century literature.
This is one of six cards we just received in, these might be a complete series. What fun! Nice unposted condition.
