Famous memento mori by Charles Allan Gilbert (September 3, 1873 – April 20, 1929). Gilbert was an American illustrator born in Connecticut, USA. He drew "All is Vanity" while still a young student, but despite a successful career as an illustrator (his credits include work for Harper's, The Atlantic Monthly, illustrations for a novel by Edith Wharton and for another by H.G. Wells, among many others) he is still best known as the creator of this wonderfully haunting drawing.

Very nice posted condition on this rare postcard printed by Thorburn of Ottawa, Canada, probably no more than a couple of years after it was published by Life magazine in 1902.

Please examine our high res scans for detail.

Postage is for first class shipping in a secure photo mailer, and we happily combine shipping on all paper goods. If you purchase two cards, we will refund the postage on the second card, and when you purchase three or more cards from us at the same time, your shipping will be entirely free, except for international orders which, because of sudden increases in international shipping rates will still be charged one card's shipping fees on orders of three or more.
