A young woman with long tresses, dressed in a blanket and grasping a be-ribboned ornate harp. Her expression seems to say, "Okay, Mister photographer, the session is over, now give me back my clothes." Lots of fun. A bit weird, but lots of fun :) This card was posted by someone named Marcel in 1906 to a Mlle. Yvonne "Rangier," (I think--the script is a little hard to be certain of) staying at the Chateau de la Boudiere in Marchemaisons, Normandy, France. If you open listing image 3, you can see the chateau where she lived from a photo taken in around 1910 (we took this image off the web, not our photo, not for sale ). We've seen recent images of the chateau and it looks pretty much the same. Lovely. Was Mlle. a member of the family living at the chateau? Was she a member of the staff? Who can say? Sometimes we find answers to these questions but not today.
Yep, on a slow day, we at Red Poulaine entertain ourselves by researching addresses on 100 year old postcards! Exciting, huh?
Apparently you can rent the 8 bedroom Chateau de la Boudiere for around 2800 Euros a week. There are restaurants as near as 13 km and a Wednesday market 4 km away. The seashore is an hour and a half away by car and well....it sounds very peaceful :) There are only around 160 people living in all of Marchemaisons, an incorporated township (what they call in France a "commune,") of about 3 square miles, mostly dairy farms apparently.
A charming card in very nice posted condition. Please examine our high res scans for detail.
