Gorgeous image! Now we can understand what Ulysses was raving about :) On the back-side of this card, in its stamp box, you can see the triangle insignia of NBC (Neue Bromsilber Convention), though the initials, N,B,C, are not quite legible, the insignia being a bit muddled. NBC was a trade consortium of printers and publishers of silver bromide photograph products (mostly postcards, we believe, though calendars, labels, pamphlets, book-covers, etc. would probably have come into play here as well).

The handy thing about this insignia is the way it aids us collectors in establishing the era of a huge number of German postcards (you will find the NBC mark on some French and British postcards as well, but much less often). The consortium came into being in August of 1909, so... because by its appearance we can guess this card was made before the 1920s (we don't see a cute flapper lounging on this rock, after all :), and we know that the German postcard industry all but folded between 1914 and 1918 (Most of that nation's industrial might was focused on their war effort by 1915), it's safe to date this lovely card to somewhere between 1909 and 1915; we'll just say, circa 1910. Deltiology is fun, huh? And some people say it's not a science! :)

A really lovely card with a minor ding just to the left of the Siren's hip. Please examine our high res scans for detail.

The item you are considering for purchase is, unless otherwise noted, a vintage postcard of approximately 5 and 1/2, by 3 and 1/2 inches. Postage is for fully-insured, first class shipping in a secure photo mailer (to avoid any damage to your purchase in the mails), and we happily combine shipping on all paper goods. If you purchase two cards, we will not charge for postage on the second card, and when you purchase three or more cards from us at the same time, your shipping will be entirely free, except for international orders which, because of increases in international shipping rates will still be charged one card's shipping fees on orders of three or more. We do not charge for shipping materials, and as of the date of this listing are still charging below our overall cost on shipping.
