We truly adore Italian postcards of the 1910s and '20s, particularly those barely post-pictorialist vaseline lens images of romantic couples, stage and silent film stars. Maybe it's because we grew up in the era of pre-cable three-channel TV with late-night and lazy Sunday black and white classic Hollywood films filling those empty programming schedules. How romantic was the smoky contrast of light and dark in young Gary Cooper's facial features. Such strength and courage mixed with hope and innocence. And the magical, heart-melting quality of light in a close-up of Merle Oberon (one of my most devastating childhood crushes), or the golden halo of Marlene's hair, loose about her shoulders in a back-lit, soft focus kissing scene. We admit it. We were smitten by that stuff at an early age and never shook it off :)
Fotocelere of Turin produced countless cards like this one. Difficult to find these days but we treasure them. Of course these images, for us at least, are a few steps beyond Hollywood romance of the silver screen. It's like the essence of those old films we love concentrated into a single powerful "Zap." I mean really...who looks like this? Their expressions are almost beyond passionate (perhaps because the passion is mostly hinted at :) and the soft focus is so dream-like. Anyway, enough rhapsodizing. Hope you enjoy it too.

Postage is for fully-insured, first class shipping in a secure photo mailer (to avoid any damage to your purchase in the mails), and we happily combine shipping on all paper goods. If you purchase two cards, we will not charge for postage on the second card, and when you purchase three or more cards from us at the same time, your shipping will be entirely free, except for international orders which, because of increases in international shipping rates will still be charged one card's shipping fees on orders of three or more.
