There was a band in Los Angeles, maybe still is, named "Darling Violetta," according to a piece I read on them, they took the name from the way Bela Lugosi would address his letters to her when they were lovers. There is another story that Lugosi fell in love with her while working at the Budapest Theater, and even wrote her poetry, but that his love was unrequited. Poor Bela. I mean that! Anyone who has watched Ed Wood a couple of times (great movie!) definitely develops a soft spot for guy.
Miss Napierska did, in any event, star in a number of silent German films. Outside of this, much of her life remains a mystery. She certainly was a beauty, though, and this image, though still findable, is quite rare in this condition.
Follow this link to hear one of Darling Violetta's songs that is highly recognizable to American television audiences, and, in a somewhat roundabout way, leads back to Bela Lugosi :)
