Liane Haid (1895-2000) is sometimes called the first Austrian film star. She was very popular in the 1920s silents, and trained as a singer, she had no problem with the transition to the talkies in the 1930s.
According to Wikipedia, she refused offers from Hollywood, but left Germany for Switzerland in the early 1940s, marrying a count and though she made a very few further appearances, pretty much retiring from film.
She passed away in Bern, Switserland, in the year 2000 at 105 years old!
