A truly wonderful item. Here we have a postcard published in the early 20s by Alfred Noyer of Paris, one of the much loved "Les Vedettes de Cinema" series, an image of the immortal Gloria Swanson, promoting the Hollywood silent film "Under the Lash," released in 1921 by Paramount Pictures. How do we know our card's image relates to "Under the Lash"? Well, unfortunately we can't know that for certain, but the book she's reading, "The Shulamite," by Alice and Claude Askew, was the novel upon which "Under the Lash" was based. Unfortunately, if you want to see the movie you are out of luck, as it is one of so many early films that have been lost forever due to careless storage, natural deterioration, or just happenstance. But this amazing image of Gloria, and her amazing eyes, is with us still. :) The card is in nice condition, but with somewhat rounded corners and slight foxing on the backside.
