RPPC (REAL PHOTO POSTCARD). One accepted definition is of a photo postcard produced by an amateur photographer in a home studio, or in a local professional studio, rather than by a major postcard publisher. In the upper left quadrant, the card was stamped by Hunter's Studio on West Chicago Ave. in Chicago. Our scanner doesn't show this well, but we read it by lamplight :)
RPPCs, because they were usually printed in very limited editions (for friends or family, that sort of thing) are by definition rarer than diamonds, since diamonds, though expensive, can be found all over, but this particular postcard is probably not one you'll ever see again!
On the card's back, is an AZO stamp box with markings that date it to between 1924 and 1949. Not much help there. AZO was an American producer of photographic paper often used over here for RPPCs. We'll date this card on a hunch to circa 1930 based on image details like carpet pattern, page boy haircut, etc.
Great costume! We particularly love the cuffs with bells on the bare arms. Her dance slippers are well worn. A theatrical performer possibly? We're also guessing more a young woman than girl, really, based on the size of her hands. What's your take on this wonderful piece of a stranger's history? We'd love to hear from you.
