Superb Embossed French Postcard, circa 1900 by redpoulaine

Before 1904, French postcards were printed without the vertical line on their obverse; you know, that line separating the message portion on a modern postcard's back from the address portion? By law, messages written on those pre-1904 cards (called précurseurs by French collectors), were only allowed on the image side of the card, and the undivided backs of those cards were reserved exclusively for the mailing address.

This legislated bit of nonsense resulted in cards like this one, with lovely images, tiny photos or finely embossed decorations taking up only a small space on the card's surface, leaving lots of room for the written greeting.

What a gorgeous example this is and in lovely, lovely condition.

Postage is for first class shipping in a secure photo mailer, and we happily combine shipping on all paper goods. If you purchase two cards, we will refund the postage on the second card, and when you purchase three or more cards from us at the same time, your shipping will be entirely free, except for international orders which, because of sudden increases in international shipping rates will still be charged one card's shipping fees on orders of three or more.
