Lovely German postcard printed by Paul Fink of Berlin, posted via Feldpost in 1917. Feldpost (Fieldpost) was a free or inexpensive government postal service for letters to and from soldiers in the "field."
The text at the bottom of the image, "Ich denke dein" or "I think of you," is the title of a much loved poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
A few lines to set the mood:
"Ich sehe dich,
wenn auf dem fernen Wege
Der Staub sich hebt,"
"I see you,
when on the distant road
The dust rises,"

!917, of course, was a year before the end of "The Great War," WWI, and the poem expresses a lover's longing. The lovely image also conjures loneliness beautifully. We imagine that many a deep sigh was spent over this postcard during the course of that terrible war.
