A wonderful find! Five postcard images of scenes from floor shows at the famous Folies Bergere in Paris. These come in the original slipcase, marked Folies Bergere, and were probably sold to enthusiastic customers to take home as souvenirs.
There are a total of five cards in the collection, probably from the WWII era, but because of the importance of the Folies Bergere to the era known as la Belle Epoque, we will list this collection in that section.
Four of the five images are "signed" (not autographed) Louis Silvestre, a theatrical photographer and portraitist of other famous persons as well, one of whom was the former French president Charles de Gaulle. Silvestre has been called the successor to Henri Manuel.
These images are particularly interesting in that unlike most of the theatrical portraits we share, they give an idea of the sheer scale and gorgeous design of the sets for these productions. Amazing.
Of course we could list these separately, but it would be a terrible shame to separate them from their original slipcase. **Please Note** the slipcase itself is in very worn condition and not complete, but the piece of greatest importance, the front with "Folies Bergere," and the peek-a-boo heart window is there and two rear flaps still attached holding the cards in place. A third flap is present, but detached.
All five cards are in very nice condition, and blank backed. We have limited space for images in a single listing. If you are seriously interested in this item, you are welcome to request scans of the other three cards, and card backs.
Please examine our high res scans for detail.
Postage is for first class shipping in a secure photo mailer, and we happily combine shipping on all paper goods. If you purchase two cards, we will refund the postage on the second card, and when you purchase three or more cards from us at the same time, your shipping will be entirely free, except for international orders which, because of sudden increases in international shipping rates will still be charged one card's shipping fees on orders of three or more.
