We get so used to thinking of the much beloved Gloria as Norma Desmond, with all that femme fatale baggage (and yes of course, who doesn't love that?), we sometimes forget Miss Swanson was capable of a very broad range of expression. This is a wonderful image of a young Gloria Swanson looking oh-so pensive on a card by the great Italian publisher of silent film star postcards, G.B. Falci of Milan. We confess that if it hadn't been an identified card, we'd never have recognized her!
The card dates to right around 1924. How can we tell? Because, unless we are mistaken, although the merger of Metro Pictures, Goldwyn Pictures, and Louis B. Mayer Pictures, happened as a result of a buy out of all three companies by Marcus Loew in 1924, it wasn't until 1925 that "Metro Goldwyn Pictures," as it was first called following that merger, became known as "Metro Goldwyn Mayer."
Wonderful, unusual, image of Miss Swanson! Very nice condition! Please examine our high res scans for detail.
Postage is for first class shipping in a secure photo mailer, and we happily combine shipping on all paper goods. If you purchase two cards, we will refund the postage on the second card, and when you purchase three or more cards from us at the same time, your shipping will be entirely free, except for international orders which, because of sudden increases in international shipping rates will still be charged one card's shipping fees on orders of three or more.
